People like me who uses various cloud hosting services may have noticed that as soon as the rumor of Google Drive started taking a full throttle all the other cloud services started sending mails about their new features or just a reminder mail ( though you use it everyday :-/ ). And moreover Microsoft's Skydrive just went for a complete revamp. So this is a clear indication that companies are now in a direct battle to earn the title of "Best Cloud Hosting". Microsoft has gone a step forward by comparing it's service with some major players of this cloud hosting market. Thay have published a comparison table in their website as follows
Skydrive vs Google Drive vs Apple Icloud vs Dropbox. Click to enlarge |
Everything is good till we saw a specific term of Google Drive. And this part is the most wierd part we experienced. As Google says,
Your Content in our Services: When you upload or otherwise submit content to our Services, you give Google (and those we work with) a worldwide licence to use, host, store, reproduce, modify, create derivative works (such as those resulting from translations, adaptations or other changes that we make so that your content works better with our Services), communicate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute such content.
The rights that you grant in this licence are for the limited purpose of operating, promoting and improving our Services, and to develop new ones. This licence continues even if you stop using our Services (for example, for a business listing that you have added to Google Maps).
This means the moment your file gets uploaded to Google Drive you are agreeing to give rights to Google to edit the file. And your file will be available in the Google Drive search file function (there may be an option to make files Private). While the other cloud hosting services keeps the right if the file to you Google takes it from you. We do oppose it a bit. But in another statement Google says that the right of my file will stay with me :-?. Well, we have applied for a Google Drive and will sure update what's inside.
